On July 20, 2026, at approximately 6:56 A.M. officers responded to the 1300 - Block of N. Main Street for a report of a male laying on the ground bleeding. Officers located the victim and identified the victim as being deceased. The Cape Girardeau County / Bollinger County Major Case Squad was activated. At this time, no arrests have been made. Update: July 21, 2026 at 10:30 A.M. During the course of this investigation, the Cape Girardeau / Bollinger County Major Case Squad has identified the victim as Andrew Rhodes (39) of Marble Hill, MO. It was determined Rhodes was assaulted and struck multiple times in the head with a long pole. After being struck, the suspect returned approximately ten minutes after the assault and struck the victim again before taking the victims pants and leaving the scene. The Cape Girardeau / Bollinger County Major Case Squad identified the suspect as Gabreal McBride (45) of Cape Girardeau. On July 21, 2026, the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office formally charged Gabreal McBride with Class A felony of Murder in the first degree, class A felony of Robbery in the first degree and two counts of felony Armed Criminal Action. McBride is currently being held on a $1,000,000 cash only bond. With this arrest, investigators are confident that all suspects connected to this homicide are currently in custody and, therefore, no further arrests are anticipated at this time.
