Unlawful Use of a Weapon
On December 29, 2025, at about 9:19 p.m., officers with the Cape Girardeau Police
Department responded to the 1300 - Block of Amblewood Dr. in reference to shots fired.
Officers arrived on scene and heard a gunshot come from the rear of the building.
Officers located a male subject later identified as Connor Oetzel (30) of Cape
Girardeau. Oetzel was detained by officers and several spent shell casings were
located in the immediate vicinity of where Oetzel was detained.
Oetzel admitted to officers that he had previously consumed alcohol and provided a
preliminary breath sample to officers. While being transported to jail, Oetzel spit in the
transporting officers face.
During the course of the investigation, officers recovered the firearm Oetzel used. No
reports of property damage or injuries were reported.
Oetzel was formally charged through the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutors Office
with Class E felony of unlawful use of a weapon, Class A misdemeanor of unlawful
discharge of a firearm, and Class A misdemeanor of assault in the fourth degree. Oetzel
is currently being held on a $10,000 cash-only bond.
An offense charge is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent until
proven guilty.
