Armed Robbery
On December 29, 2025, at about 7:00 p.m., officers with the Cape Girardeau Police
Department responded to the 000 - Block of S. Plaza Way in reference to an armed
robbery.
Officers arrived on scene and made contact with three employees out front. Officers
located the suspect later identified as Wilbur Lively III (54) near the back of the store in
an employee only area. Lively was taken into custody and transported to the Cape
Girardeau Police Department for booking procedures. Upon arrival at the Cape
Girardeau Police Department, officers discovered Lively had a plastic bag containing
approximately one gram of suspected methamphetamine in his mouth.
The victim reported Lively entering the business, and continuously asking the victim for
assistance with a box however the victim did not feel comfortable doing so. The victim
reported Lively walking around the store multiple times and continuously going into the
employee only area. Lively then leaned down to a customer that was checking out and
told the customer he had a knife. Lively then followed the customer out of the store and
locked the door. The victim then told Lively to leave the store and he did.
A short time later, Lively reentered the store and grabbed the victim pulling her away
from the cash register attempting to force her into a nearby aisle. The victim was able to
fight herself away from Lively and Lively ran to the back of the store and the victim ran
out the front.
Lively was formally charged through the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutors Office
with Class B felony of burglary in the first degree, Class A misdemeanor of assault in
the fourth degree, Class D felony of delivering or concealing prohibited articles on
premises, and Class D felony of a controlled substance. Lively is currently being held
without bond.
An offense charge is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent until
proven guilty.
