Unlawful Use of a Weapon
On February 1, 2026, at about 4:45 p.m., officers with the Cape Girardeau Police
Department responded to the 1500 - Block of Whitener St. in reference to a disturbance
involving a firearm.
Officers arrived on scene and observed the suspect; Shawn Seabaugh (51) of Cape
Girardeau, exiting his residence and was detained. Officers reported Seabaugh possibly
being under the influence of intoxicating beverages due to his actions.
Witnesses reported hearing an argument between Seabaugh and other subjects outside
of a residence in the 1500 – Block of Whitener St. Seabaugh reportedly stated during
the argument, he was going into his residence to retrieve a firearm. Officers reviewed
surveillance cameras that showed Seabaugh exiting his residence, retrieving a firearm
from his back waistband, pointed it toward the sky, and then placed it back in his
waistband.
Officers located the firearm, unloaded with a loaded magazine next to it. Seabaugh was
transported to the Cape Girardeau Police Department pending formal charges.
Seabaugh was formally charged through the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutors Office
with Class E felony of unlawful use of a weapon. Seabaugh is currently being held on a
$15,000 surety bond.
An offense charge is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent until
proven guilty.
