BETTY MARTIN with a strategic plan. The Strategic Planning Committee consists of Lucas, Ed,
Amy, John V. and John M. The first meeting will take place in Director Martin's
office on Jan 31St at 9am.

website. She is also writing a grant to help with the strategic planning funding.
The board discussed various other funding possibilities and also advised Director
Martin to go ahead and apply for the grant — which requires getting a total of three
bids for the work and is due by Feb. Is'.
Service Anniversaries: Marilyn Hutchings — 20yrs; Sharon Anderson —15 yrs;
Chris Martin — 5yrs.
Missouri Public Library Director's Meeting Report: Director Martin met with
other directors of medium sized libraries. Their input was sought by State Library
staff as they draft a plan for the next 5 -year plan to use LSTA money — what has
worked, what needs improvement and what the priorities should be. She also
attended a meeting with the OverDrive representative who reviewed usage
statistics. There are currently 100 libraries in the consortium and each title costs
.25/ use. There was also discussion about purchasing priorities. The Missouri
Public Library Directors meeting also discussed LSTA funding; heard an update
from MORENET ; heard speakers on successful library ballot issues over the past
year; visited with incoming Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft; and had a review of
some legal library issues from MPLD attorney.
Website Progress: Awaiting a quote for Element 74 for redesign costs.
Performed a survey using Survey Monkey. Sent to 12,000 card holders and posted
a link on Facebook twice. 239 responses came back with about 1/3 of them being
catalog issues — a problem that won't be solved by a website upgrade. The rest of
the responses for why they used the website are: Catalog Search, Library
Account, Adult programs, Downloadables, Hours of operation, Youth programs,
other, databases and meeting rooms. 60 of 167 responses said they thought the
website is fine.
OverDrive Magazines: OverDrive had contracted with Barnes and Noble to offer
subscriptions to e -magazines at very little cost to the consortium. As of Jan 28d'
that service will end without explanation. OverDrive is working on offering its
own e -magazine platform. While there will not be a platform fee, there will be a
price per magazine for the consortium to absorb. OverDrive predicts this new
service will be available in July. We are working to put a message on the home
page of MOLIB2GO to ask your local library if they have different e -magazine
subscriptions. We are beginning our 3`a year with Zinio and have 30
downloadable magazine titles.
Passport Applications: 87 ($3,015) passports were accepted in November and 98
($3,361) in December. We are reviewing times when additional part-time hours
would be helpful.
Library Navigation Brochures have a map of the inside of the building for new
patrons who have never been to the library as well as information about the library
design and the Friends Foundation. We have run out and Director Martin asked
the board is they should be re -ordered. The board agreed that an order should be
placed.
HVAC Issues: Will need a new blatter for the expansion tank ($1,585) and a
boiler pop-off ($295). Both prices include labor. A compressor may have to be
replaced next year as well. Associated Sheet Metal is working on a quote.
Audit: Director Martin reviewed the annual audit and referred the board to page 7
where it shows the library added $87,567 to the fund balance.
Gilmore & Bell files the annual report on the bonds. A copy was distributed to
the board members. The library pays $1,000 per year from funds that were set
aside at the time of re -financing.
Collection Agency: The library recovered $12,000 in cash and materials this past
year. The law has changed and delinquent library fines can no longer be reported
to credit bureaus. The recovery numbers are down since May and will continue to
be monitored.
Upcoming Programs: Adult Services Winter Reading Club bingo and "Beatles —
Songs They Gave Away". The AARP tax preparers will begin Feb 151 on
Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-3:30.
BUDGET AND Sheryl reminded the board to fill out the Director's Evaluation and return to her
PERSONNEL before the next meeting.
COMMITTEE
FRIENDS Friends memberships for 2017 are due.
ADJOURNMENT Meeting adjourned at 10:30.
