AIRPORT BOARD MEETING
OCTOBER 24 , 1985 - 4 :00 P.M.
Airport Restaurant
Present: Paul Miles, Chairman
Jerry McClanahan, Secretary
David Patterson
Truman Cole
Jeff Hancock , Airport Manager
Fred Boeckmann, City Attorney
Mr . Hancock presented the Airport layout plan that has been completed
by Booker Associates. Discussion was held on the variety of additions
and deletions of the plan. Specific items discussed were the possible
location of new hangars and the present need for new hangars. In
addition, discussion was held concerning the present contract with
Cape Central Airways and the areas presently leased, the terms of the
contract and the ability of Cape Central to provide additional hangars.
Questions and discussion were held on the present fixed base operator
and whether all services are presently being provided . Specific areas
of discussion were flight instruction, charter service, mechanical
service , line service , hangar service and the elimination of Cape
Central as a Cessna dealer.
Mr . Jeff Hancock discussed the past maintenance items that were
accomplished at the airport. These items included striping of the
parking lot, new signs , reseeding of the lot in front of the terminal
building and the need for a new control cable running from the relay
station to the terminal building. Mr . Hancock updated the board on
the City's preparation for snow removal. Equipment to be included
wil be one dump truck with a snow plow, grader and the purchase of a
small snow blower .
Considerable discussion was held concerning the need for an airport
terminal building and the recent support of continuation of a tax levy
to equal the $68 ,000 which was being paid from the 5 cent levy for the
airport bonds. These bonds will be retired in 1986. It is the belief
of the board that there will be need for a 20 ,000 square foot new
terminal building at approximately $75 . 00 per square foot or $1 .5
million. It is the board's belief that rather than approve a 3 . 5 cent
levy to equal the $68 ,000, that perhaps a 7 cent levy could provide
for a new terminal building and adequate maintenance for the airport.
Mr . Truman Cole moved that the City Council immediately formulate a
plan for a new terminal building since the existing terminal building
is in such deteriorated state that the practicality of remodeling and
repairs is unfeasible and that a new terminal is the only way to
approach this problem. This motion was seconded by David Patterson
and approved unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 6 : 00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jerry McClanahan, Secretary
