B. Aquatics Update
Aquatics Division Manager Williams advised that the leak at the Central pool was repaired, but a part on
the pump broke. They brought in a portable pump, but had to completely drain the pool and refill it.
They are hoping to have the pool fully open next week. The Jefferson School Project will have bids open
on Thursday. She also reported that Cape Splash had a great weekend with attendance over 1800 on
Saturday, 1400 on Sunday and 1000 on Monday.
C. Youth Ballfield Complex RFP
Director Jones stated there were three proposals submitted. The committee met to review them and
none of them met the requirements. They decided to take a break from the project until Dr. Haskins has
time to review the project and offer his input. The next effort may include reaching back out to those
companies and asking them to meet the requirements or withdraw from consideration.
NEW BUSINESS
A. July 4th Bicentennial
Director Jones informed the Board about the agenda for the Bicentennial celebration. This event will
start in the Arena with food and music and then move outside for presentations from Judge Limbaugh,
Mayor Fox and other dignitaries. The Municipal band will play and then there will be a fireworks display.
B. Director Jones Retirement Transition
Director Jones reported that the Division Managers would continue to manage their own divisions as
well as working together after her last day and until her position has been filled. Once Dr. Haskins has
been brought up to speed on the department’s needs, they will open up the position for a national
search. This could take 2-3 months.
REPORTS/PROJECT UPDATES
A. PARKS & RECREATION PROJECT UPDATES
Parks Division Manager Davis reported the projects at Capaha Park are behind schedule by about 2-3
weeks. The playground came in below cost at this point and we are looking at 6-8 weeks for shipping of
materials. The municipal band will be performing at Central High School as the band shell has not been
completed. Bids for the pond should go out in the next few weeks. That renovation should take about a
year to complete. Plans for the Rose Garden have been approved to accommodate ADA access. The
River Heritage Museum has had 2 bids come back and Director Jones is confident it will go well.
