WELCOME / INTRODUCTIONS Vice Chairman, Kevin Noel welcomed everyone and then called the meeting to order. 2. OLD BUSINESS A. Approval Of Minutes Kevin Noel asked for a motion to approve the October 12, 2020 minutes. Tracey Glenn made a motion, seconded by Beverly Evans. All approved. B. Aquatics Update Division Manager Penny Williams updated the Board on the repairs at Central Pool. We are making progress. The leak is in the box near the filter pit. The first company contacted to evaluate the leak was here two weeks ago, but was quarantined shortly thereafter and unable to return. Another company was then contacted for welding the pipes. They are currently scheduled to run smoke through the pipes to detect any leaks on November 18. Penny said that at this point though we may not wait to smoke the pipes for leaks, and just start filling the pool and see if it holds water. The 2’ x 2’ section that was cut out to access the pipes will be covered with a grate, and not filled back in with concrete. Time will tell if working on what we have identified is the real issue or not. C. Spaghetti Day Recap Recreation Division Managers Penny and Scott Williams gave a recap of Spaghetti Day 2020. Normal setup began the day after the elections. On the day of the event, we took a hit from volunteers—down fourteen because of quarantines, and other illnesses etc. Preliminary numbers look as such: down approximately 500 people, down $1,000 in sponsors, down $800 day of event sales, and down 380 sponsor redemptions. Although people did come to dine-in, we were down on dine-in participants, especially in the evening. Staff and Board Members alike reported very good feedback on the newly offered curbside service this year. Penny added a note of special thanks to the Notre Dame cheerleaders who assisted with the curbside deliveries to vehicles. Without their help and assistance, the curbside services we offered would never have worked. 3. NEW BUSINESS 4. REPORTS A. Parks and Recreation Project Updates i. Parks Division Manager Brock Davis reported slow progress on projects now. We are currently finishing SWIFT documents for DNR for the Capaha and Cherry Hill projects. The Cape Girardeau Library applied for and received a grant for Wi-Fi to be installed at eleven different locations in our city parks. They should all be installed by the end of November in locations including Capaha Park, the Splash Pad, Ranney Park, Washington Park, and more. There are trail projects underway including widening some trails, fixing issues with the south end of another trail, and the renovation and repair of two bridges. There will be a ribbon cutting at Ford D tomorrow at 11:30 am to showcase all the renovations and new roof at Fort D. PORCH and the Arts Council recently organized and assisted with a massive cleanup of Ranney Park, along with a bench project. Along with the park improvements, we are seeing improved park usage and more children at the park. The Cape Girardeau Library received a grant to install a “little library” kiosk at the Shawnee Park Center. There will be a ribbon cutting next week to celebrate these additional services and access to library resources. B. Golf Course Advisory Board i.
