B. AQUATICS UPDATE
Aquatics Division Manager Williams advised there is nothing new to report at this time regarding the
Jefferson School Project. She added her staff is very busy getting Cape Splash prepped for the upcoming
season. The funbrellas will begin opening 24 days before opening day on May 29th. All Lifeguard classes
are currently full but Aquatics Supervisor Shanahan will be adding a couple more classes. The Parks &
Recreation Department had a very successful Job Fair on March 11th and will be conducting interviews
soon.
NEW BUSINESS
A. Youth Ballfield Complex RFP
Director Jones explained this Request For Proposal is part of the PRS2 tax renewal for 25 acres to build a
Youth Ballfield Complex comprising of six to eight fields. Two submittals have been received so far. The
committee hopes to receive a couple more before moving forward. The deadline for proposals to be
submitted will be April 29th. The Project Committee will then meet to narrow down the requests and
schedule the presentations.
B. Summer Personnel Update
Parks Division Manager Davis reported applications are being received and applicants are being called
but they are not always showing up for the interviews. Thus, the department still has several part-time
positions open. Director Jones explained the department had an opportunity to do some reorganization
within the Recreation Division since several full-time employees left for other opportunities.
Administrative Assistant, Wendy Wilson; Recreation Specialist, Tessa Bollinger and Recreation
Coordinator, Jennifer Rose, all left the department in March. This is going to allow Cassie Dennis to
move to the SportsPlex to fill that Administrative position as well as still assume some of the scheduling
and programming duties she is currently responsible for as Recreation Coordinator. The department will
be hiring a second Assistant Recreation Division Manager to assist Aquatics Division Manager Williams
as well as a Recreation Supervisor to be over the Shawnee Park Center and the Shawnee Park Sports
Complex. The department has in their budget to bring part-time salaries up to $9.45 per hour with the
second level of managers/supervisors to increase to $10.75. Director Jones concluded times are tight
and the department has to find alternative revenue.

electric. Hopefully, the bid can go out in May and some drainage can be completed this Fall. The Rose
Garden is in final site design with infrastructure. The plan is to make the garden and parking lot more
level in order to make it ADA accessible. Parks Division Manager Davis is still waiting for the cost of
asphalt for the Pickleball/Tennis Court Renovation Project. He met with all three companies. They all
asked why the department was considering a total replacement and explained they could come in and
ground ¼” of the top layer, put a mesh down and then put a layer of asphalt on which normally lasts 10
– 15 years. This would cut the cost in half. He met with Nip Kelly on fencing. They are unable to get blue
as requested. The fencing would be black or silver galvanized. The board agreed to not do a total
replacement of the courts. This will allow Parks Division Manager Davis to keep the project at $100,000
or less.
