 NARRATIVE SUMMARY
 On Sunday, October 2 at 1 : 59 P. M. firefighters responded to
1567 Grandview to a carport fire. Anthony Wilson had ignited a
Fire in his Bar-B-Que grill using gasoline from a plastic jug.
The fire burned out of control , causing darnage to the wall and
ceiling of the carport.
On Monday, October 3 at 9: 07 A.M. Fire Department personnel
were called to Budget Mobile Home Sates at 902 South Kingshigh-
way for an electrical fire in the office. Electrical Heat Tape
instatled under the floor of the office had overheated and
shorted out, causing damage to the water pipes, inslation, and
 floorin.
At 11 :21 P. M. on Wednesday, October 5, firefighters were
called to an apartment building located at 223 South Ellis when
a tenant smelled smoke in the building. An electrical wire had
been pulled through a hole drilled in a 2"X 4" stud. The wire
shorted out as a result of the insulation being peeled off when
it was pulled through the hole. The fire burned inside the
waii , up through the lst and 2nd floors of the building and thru
the wall to the outside wood siding. There were no injuries .
 On Friday, nctober 7 at 11 : 53 P. M. firefighters responded
to a house fire at 215 South Hanover which had been reported by
a passing Police Officer. A 49-year-old man was rescued from
the kitchen of the burning house. Personnel administered oxygen
to the man; he was transported by ambulance to the hospital .
The fire was extinguished; the house and furnishings were
damaged by smcke and flames. A further investigation revealed
that this fire was of an incendiary nature. A suspect was taken
into custody by the Police Department.
A fire of undetermined origin damaged the front room of a
vacant mobile home at 1927 North Kingshighway on Friday, October
14. Firefighters responded to the scene at 10 : 52 P. M. to extin-
guish the fire which was reported by a neighbor.
On Wednesday, October 19 at 9:43 A.M. Fire Department
personnel responded to an emergency medical call at the con-
struction site for the new Storey' s Food Giant at 201 South

ting saw, was overcome by fumes in a room that was inadequately
ventilated. Aid was given to the construction worker and the
hazard was removed.

 At 11 : 13 A. M. on Wednesday, ctober 19, firefighters re-
sponded to 1561 Lexington to a house fire. The owner had left
his vehicle running in the closed garage in order to recharge
the battery. The engine overheated, ignited the vehicle, and
t.he fire spread throughot. the garage area and into the attic of
the home. There were no injuries ; the van was destroyed, the
garage and attic were heavily damaged and the remainder of the
house was damaged by heat and smoke.
On Wednsday, October 19, the owner of premises at 409
Franklin Street, while installing an automatic ice maker,
drilled a hole in the natural gas supply line by mistake. Fire-
fighters responded at 5: 03 P. M. Gas suppty was disconnected,
fumes were vented from the basement of the home and service was
restored after the leak was repaired.
An oversized light bulb was the apparent cause of a fire
which started in a bathroom light fixture at 1424 Whitener
Street on Thursday, October 20. Firefighters responded at 9: 11
 P. M. and found the ceiling joist and electrical wiring above the
light fixture were burning. The fire was extinguished; there
was damage to the bathroom ceiling, electrical wiring and attic
 of the house.
At 6:40 A. M. on Monday, October 24, Fire Department person-
nel were calted to the Jim Wilson Company at 2100 Themis Street.
Electrical resisance in an extension cord caused overheating of
the wiring which ignited a wooden display case of automobile
tires . The automatic sprinkler system in the building acti -
vated, extinguishing the fire and saving the buitding from heavy
fire damage. Fire damage was limited to the display case, tires
and surrounding wall surfaces. Firefighters replaced two
sprinkler heads and removed water from the building.
At 5:46 P. M. on Thursday, October 27, firefighters were
called to 2549 Lynnwood to investigate a smoke odar in the home.
Upon investigation it was found that lightening had struck the
roof of the home, making a hole in the roof and damaging the TV
antenna. There was no fire; it was raining heavily at the time
and the hole was covered with plastic to insure against further
damage.
On Sunday, October 30, at 9: 57 A.M. firefighters responded
to 1420 David Street where a workshop located at the rear of the
residential lot was fully involved in fire. The owner of the
workshop had built a fire in a wood stove and went back inside
his house. Upon returning to the workshop he found the workshop
ablaze. The workshop was completely destroyed and its contents
