SPECIAL SESSION - JUNE 9, 1992
Council convened in special joint session with the Airport Advisory Board on Tuesday,
June 9, 1992, at 4:00 p.m. with Mayor Francis E. Rhodes presiding and Council
members Melvin Gateley, Melvin Kasten, David Limbaugh, Doug Richards, and Mary
Wulfers present.
In attendance representing the Airport Advisory Board were James Bowman, Allan Maki,
Jr., Jerry McClanahan, Steve Nesler, w�u� w�er, and J. Fred Wa1tz. City Staff
present were Alvin Stoverink, Assistant City Manager; Douglas Leslie, Public Works
Director; Mark Seesing, Airport Manager; Kevin McMeel, Assistant Public Works
Director; Julie Dale, Deputy City Clerk; Gayle Conrad, Public Works Department
Administrative Secretary.
Mr. Bill Mishk, representing Trans World Express, appeared before the Council and the
Airport Advisory Board with a presentation supporting Trans World Fxpress as the
essential air service carrier for the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport. A question and
answer session followed.
Mr. Phillip Trenary, representing Lone Star Airlines, appeared before the Council and
the Airport Advisory Board with a presentation supporting I,flne Star Airlines as the
essential air service carrier for the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport. A question and
answer session followed.
In discussion, two travel agents expressed their support for keeping Trans World Express
as the air carrier for Cape Girardeau. They were Judy Bullock of Perry Travel Center
and Danita Chipman of Reppert Hospitality Travel Center. Mr. Mark Hill of
, Destinations Unlimited stated that the presentation by Lone Star Airlines had changed his
�! mind in support of their proposal. Following discussion, Ms. Bullock and Ms. Chipman
� did not object to Lone Star Airlines serving as essential air service carrier to the Cape
Girardeau Municipal Airport.
The Airport Advisory Board recommended to the City Council that Lone Star Airlines'
Option II be recommended to the Department of Transportation as the essential air
service carrier for the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport, upon Mr. Walker's motion,
Mr. Bowman's second, and a unanimous vote.
A motion was made by Dr. Kasten and seconded by Mr. Gateley that Lone Star Airlines'
Option II be recommended to the Department of Transportation as the essential air
service carrier for the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport. 7 he motion was approved
upon the following vote: Ayes, Gateley, Kasten, Limbaugh, Rhodes, Richards, Wulfers.
Nays, none.

Mr. Jerry McClanahan read to the Council a Resolution prepared by the Airport
Advisory Board commending Mark Seesing and all the volunteers w�io participated in
making the Aviation Days '92 Air Show such a success. .
Following adjoumment of the Airport Advisory Board, the City Council meeting
adjourned upon Mr. Richards' motion, Mr. Limbaugh's second, and the following vote:
Ayes, Gateley, Kasten, Limbaugh, Rhodes, Richards, Wulfers. Nays, none.
