regarding changing the membership of the Board. The Board submitted a letter to the City Council
presenting their concerns with this ordinance. Mr. Alberson explained that the Board deals with
tectuucal matters relating to all building, plumbing, mecharrical and electrical codes and it is not
proper for real estate agents or landlords to serve on this board unless they also meet the other
qualifications for the Board.
Mr. Tony Sebek, a member of the Board of Appeals, also expressed his opposition to the proposed
ordinance. This Board reviews variances requested by citizens to rulings of the city staff. The
Board's decisions cannot be overnuned by the City Staff or City Council. Being a realtor or landlord
does not mean that this person knows and is familiar with construction and building codes.
Mr. Rickard questioned a statement in the letter from the Board about being a self-serving board. He
stated in the long run he felt the addition of these two members would result in a better advisory
board.
