5• The Commissioners held a public hearing and reviewed the proposed sign ordinance.
Robb McClary, Inspection Services Director, appeared to answer questions on the
proposed ordinance. Thomas L. Meyer, a member of the committee reviewing and
recommending the proposed ordinance, appeared. The vote on the motion to recommend
approval of the proposed sign ordinance, which would be an amendment to the Zoning
Ordinance, was 9 in favor and none in opposition.
6. The Commission heard a presentation from Harry Rediger, chairman of the TTF
Committee, regarding the proposed design for Fountain Street, from Morgan Oak Street
to William Street. The design being proposed would be a boulevard design with a
roundabout at Morgan Oak. The decision to keep the roundabout at Morgan Oak Street
was based on it being the least costly design and the best design for the intersection. The
Commission voted to recommend approval of this preliminary design. The vote on the
motion to approve the design was 6 in favor and 3 in opposition.
7. The Commissioners discussed their review of the Downtown Traffic and Circulation
Study at the study session held prior to this meeting. The Commission felt the two-way
traffic on Main Street should be approved, and also felt Exhibit A-2 in the proposal,
� showing a reconfiguration of the parking lot on Main Street with an entrance and 4-way
stop at the Merriwether Street intersection, would be the best alternative for traffic flow.
The vote on the motion to approve the two-way traffic and modified Exhibit A-2 of the
parking lot was 9 in favor and none in opposition.
8. In other actions, Chairman Smallwood appointed Clifford Crosnoe to be the Planning and
Zoning Commission's representative on a Mass Transit sub-committee of the Chamber of
Commerce. Mr. Greg Williams of the Chamber Transportation Committee informed the
Commission of this committee and requested that the Commission appoint a
representative.
Chairman Smallwood also reminded the Commissioners of the special meeting on March
22, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. with Old Town Cape.
