Board Meeting: Thursday, November 1, 2018 @ 7am
Cape Girardeau Public Library
ATTENDANCE Present: Fran Austin,Amy Trueblood, Rekha Patterson, John Voss, Stacy
Lane, John McGowan
Also present: Director Katie Hill, Linda Bailiff
Absent: David Dively, Tony Robinson, Red Redinger
PRESIDENT'S President Amy Trueblood called the meeting to order at 7:00am. Amy
REPORT asked for volunteers from the board of trustees to visit the Friends
meetings, which are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month beginning at
5pm for the month of November. Stacy volunteered to attend the next
meeting. Additional Note: Beginning Jan of 2019 the Friends meeting will
begin at 4:30p.
MINUTES The minutes were reviewed. John V. made a motion to approve the
minutes, seconded by Fran. Motion passed. Concerning the budget
sheet following the minutes in the packet. The % of the year used is
incorrect. It should say 25%. This has been corrected.
BILLS The bills were reviewed and discussed.
DIRECTOR'S Missouri Library Assn Conference: Katie, Sharon, Stephanie and
REPORT Whitney attended Oct 9-12 in Columbia, MO. Highlights include programs
KATIE HILL about staff development, hiring a"dream team", the 2021 Missouri
Bicentennial,popular audio books and the MO Evergreen Consortium—45
libraries are participating. Met with Dan Brower, Asst. Director of Cass
County Public Libraries about how they use OrangeBoy/Savannah.
Staff Update: The second part-time passport agent was let go on October
23rd. The search is underway for a replacement. Library staff was
encouraged to attend the City of Cape's Employee Health Fair. 58% of the
library staff took part. A local pharmacy came to the library to administer
the flu vaccine to staff.
Telephone outage: The phones within the library became inoperative on
the evening of October 3rd. Library staff attempted to "re-boot"the system
to no avail. The phone technician was called and discovered several parts
that needed to be replaced. The main lines were repaired on October 4th
The technician will follow up when he gets the rest of the parts. John V.
suggested we check to make sure there are appropriate surge protectors and
arrestors in place.
Holiday Goodies for staff: Amy will send out a calendar for the board to
sign up to provide holiday snacks for the staff.

John Voss summarized the 10/17 Strategic Planning Working Session
STRATEGIC (minutes attached). The next meeting will be held in Katie's office on Nov
PLAN 2nd at noon. In the meantime, Amy will "wordsmith"the notes/goals. The
COMMITTEE Building and Grounds Committee and the Marketing Committee need to
schedule meetings.
Katie also distributed the most recent metrics from Savannah, as well as the
Library 1St quarter statistics.
Long-time patron Tim Ruddy passed away and designated the library as a
FRIENDS recipient of donations. So far, the Friends Foundation has collected more
than$1,000.
