GUEST: Golf Course Architect Arthur Schaopeter Mr. Schaupetcr presented his irrigation and re-routing analysis preliminary plans to the board members for discussion and questions. Golf Course Advisory Board November 20, 2008 Page 2 Hole #1 — Per 4 The green will be expanded to the front left to help tie it in with the ridge that runs along the left of the fairway. The green will have a transition slope within it to allow the front of the green to be lowered, softening the approach slope. Hole H2 — Par 5 At the tees, some treefbrush clearing will be done to open up air circulation and sunlight. The green will be expanded to the left with a bunker added at the front right of the green to create some strategy on the par 5. The green will be raised by 2'-3' to help with drainage and definition. Hole e 3 — Par 3 The green setting is goad. The green will be expanded along the left side at the front and back. The approach slope to the green will be maintained as is. The green will be steeper on the right, softer on the left, creating a range of options on the tee shot. Hole 74 — Par 4 Remove the cedars along the left side of the hole to open up the view and the proper angle. Re -plant some trees lower down the slope adjacent to the first hole. Rebuild the fairway bunker and add a second fairway bunker just short of the green to add strategic options for the tee shot on this short hole. Expand the green to the back at its current elevation and create a bay of fairway on the Icft side. Hole c5 —Par 4 Shift the green closer to the lake and lower it by 5' —6', creating a better relationship between the green and lake. Add a bunker behind the green, just at the back half of the green for added strategy on this short hole. Hole @6- Par 3 Expand the green at the back, lengthening by 10-15 yards. The existing "pond" gets filled in to accommodate the expansion. Hole k7- Par 4 Expand the green in the back at its current elevation. Reconstruct the front right bunker, lowering it to create a better hazard and to improve its visibility from the tee and fairway. Reposition the left side bunker up closer to the front of the green. This will provide better access in this area between the bunkers and are additional options of play. The fairway will expand in this area as well. Hole k8 Par 3 Fill in the pond, which doesn't lend anything for the golfing experience of the hole and needs repaired anyway. Expand the green at the front right and its current elevation. Add a bunker along the front left below the green. Remove one oftwo trees adjacent to the back left green to remove shade problems on the green surface. Hole 49- Par 4 Expand the green to the front, really the only option as the green setting is very constricted. The green surface will be at a similar elevation with a slightly undulating character. Golf Course Advisory Board November 20, 2008 Page 3 Hole #10- Par 4 Expand the pond adjacent to the new pump and use some of the fill generated to create a new forward tee along the dam side of the pond. Reposition and rebuild the fairway bunkers. Expand the fairway and bunkers adjacent to the bunkers, creating multiple landing areas and a variety of options for the golfers to consider. Expand the green at its current location and elevation and wrap the fairway around the green. Hole # I I- Par4/5 Reroute the hole from the tee, creating a Par 5 that plays straight away and doglegs around the corner of the pond at Hole #16. This would be go -for -it, risk -reward hole that would allow all golfers a variety of options playing the hole dependent upon their tee shot. Hole tt 12- Par 3 This hole is repositioned in the fairway area of the current Hole # 15, becoming a mid -length Par 3 playing slightly downhill to a green setting adjacent to the drainage channel. Hole# 13 - Par 4 This hole is repositioned as a short Par 4 though it will play uphill the entire way from the tee to the green. The new green will be positioned similar to where Hole # 11 green currently is. Hole #14 — Par 4 'This hole will become a short Par 4, almost reachable from the tee for the strongest players. A small drainage channel will cross the fairway just short of the green giving the long hitters something to consider when teeing off, A bunker will be positioned along the left side of the green, which will be located on a nice upslope. Ilole # 15- Par 5 The tee for this hole will be pulled back into the woods and positioned at a much higher elevation, creating a dramatic shot similar to the tee shot on Hole 42. 1 he fairway will be repositioned to the left to accommodate the new Hole #12 location. The second shot on the Par 5 will play across the drainage channel and up onto the fairway at a slightly higher plateau. 'f he green will be shifted up the hill closer to Hole n 16 getting it into a better location for turf growth on the green surface. The hole will now dogleg slightly to the right at the green instead of to the left. Hole 416 Par Expand the green on its current location, lowering it slightly to improve the adjacent slopes and tie-ins. The green will expand towards the back and right side. Hole # 17- Par 5/4 Shorten this hole by repositioning the green along the drainage. Shift the fairway to the left, improving the angle of the hole and creating a little needed space between hole #10. Hole # 18- Par 3 Expand the green at its current location and elevation. The green will be expanded to the back and front along the right side. 'Ihe transition slope within the green will be reconstructed in the new one. Other Notes: • Add a new irrigation pump on the Hole #10 pond. • Add a new groundwater well adjacent to Hole 5 and if necessary, adjacent to hole 16. • Use the pump at Hole 16 as a transfer pump to get water down to Hole 910 as needed. Golf Course Advisory Board November 20, 2008 Page 4 • Rebuild and expand the practice green, building it to the same standard and of the same character as the course greens. • Add a nursery green adjacent to hole #14. Director Moser reported that An Schaupeter is working hard to include the enhanced course design changes listed above with the bent grass and irrigation project. The staff will need to help in some areas and the bids will need to come within budget. Mr. Schaupeter is recommending that we close the back nine on the course around June 8' to give us an extra three weeks for weather delays. This will give us a better opportunity to open sometime in May 2010 contingent on the weather. A letter will be sent out to the pass holders in regards to their memberships for 2009. REPORTS A.
