Existing
Park
Land -

Garden

provide recreational walking path and also improve
the aesthetics of the park.

THEME PARK - GARY HELWEGE, GARY STANLEY
Mr. Helwege presented to the Park and Recreation Board a drawing
of a proposed theme park that he and his partner, Gary Stanley
would like to initiate.
The park would contain 3-400 ft. water slides, 100 x 100 pool,
raft pool, concession with an arcade, 18 hole mini golf course
and a 800-1,000 ft. go-cart track to be located on the property
between Arena Park Drive and Marie Louise. The cost of the
first phase would be 8500-750,000. They requested a 15-20 year
lease with a one - five year option, then the City would own the
theme park. Because the proposed project would eliminate one
or two girl softball diamonds, the partners are willing to
donate two softball fields at some other location.
Dr. R. A. Ritter announced his opposition to the project because
the park is already overused, the need for green space, and the
misuse of our city parks for commercial purposes.

park until further information could be obtained and public
feedback is received concerning the theme park and its proposed
location.
