CGI acquiring FDIO. Mr. Davis explained the F'DIO is essentially a computer printer
and keyboard which, if in place, will automatically present a flight data strip 30 minutes
prior to a pilots' departure time, showing their IFR clearance and route of flight Mr.
Davis explained, however, that the -release' is still obtained by telephone Gum Memphis
Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTC'C'). Without the FDIC, which is our current
status, the majority of the time a pilot will call ATC for clearance while taxiing. In this
scenario Mr. Davis explained that the clearance. route of flight, and release are obtained
verbalh Gosh Memphis ARTCC. In the more unusual situation, where a pilot would
contact Cape Al C for clearance prior to taxi, the on -duty controller simply advises the
pilot to "Expect as filed". According to Mr. Davis, this terminology should be
understood by the requesting pilot that the or she can program their route of flight as
filed. Because this is the typical situation 9990 of the time, Mr. Davis explained that,
while the FDIO is certainly preferred, our current system rarely results in it delay. Mr.
