CAPE GIRARDEAU. MISSOURI 63701
DEAR MR. MC CLANAHAN.
with the Planned constuction of a new Pilot's Club
Building scheduled to begin soon. it has been brought to
my attention that the existing building might be returned
to the airport for demolition. In the event this does happen
I am requesting that the board consider allowing my squadron
to assume upkeep and restoration of the structure.
For the past two years, the Cape Girardeau Composite
Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, Missouri Wing, has had an
agreement with the Pilot's Club to use their building as our
headquarters and trainig facility for our Youth and adult
aviation -related activities. The building has been an ideal
home for the squadron because it is centrally located to our
cadets and senior members, and provides access to the
airport for our current and future flight operation activit-
ies. In return, the squadron performs minor unkeen on the
building and grounds. such as cutting the grass and making
minor repairs to the building.
I'm sure you are aware the building is the last
remaining structure at the airport that was built for the
Harris Field. 73rd Army Air Force Training Detachment/ Cape
Institute of Aeronautics Pilot flight training school. if
Permitted to continue use of the building. and assume
responsibility for its upkeep and maintenance, it is our
Plan to make immediate repairs to the roof to prevent
additional damage, and to renovate the building to its World
War Two appearance. To do this. we would use resources
within the squadron and from local resources. Of course,
the advisory board would be informed of all plans and
repairs.
1 am ready to meet with you and the advisory board at
your next meeting to discuss our request in detail and our
plans for the use of the building.
Sincerely.
FRED W. BROWN, CAPT. CAP
