Seesing, Airport Manager L DATE: January 7, 1992 SUBJECT: Aircraft Static Display On December 4 I contacted Mr. Ken Hill, the Airport Manager of the Rogers, Arkansas Airport. The Rogers Airport received an F-101 for display this last summer. It is the one Mr. Leslie had pictures of at the last meeting. Mr. Hill and I discussed the procedures involved in procuring a static display aircraft as well as the costs for such an endeavor. It is relatively easy to get the government to give us an aircraft at no charge. The cost is in moving the aircraft and then displaying it. Mr. Hill gave me the name of a company they used to have their aircraft moved to Rogers, which was World Wide Aircraft Recovery of America. This company handles relocation of aircraft all over the world and proved to be cheaper than doing it on their own. The cost to move their aircraft from Shepard AFB to Rogers was $8,600. To move one from Shepard to Cape would be r.. estimated at about $11,000. The people of World Wide disassemble the aircraft, load it on a truck, take it to the location, unload it and reassemble it. It took about two months from the time Rogers received the aircraft for it to be delivered to the airport. A lot of the ground work associated with the Rogers display was donated by several groups and companies. The architectural and engineering work on the site was all donated as well as the blacktop and concrete. They had to pay for the flagpoles and plaques for the display. Mr. Hill said the plaques were $6,000 each. They are solid brass mounted on marble pedestals. All told, the cost of the display at the Rogers Airport is right around $25,000. If we can get such organizations as the VFW, American Legion, and Vietnam Veterans Association involved in the effort, we stand a good chance of getting a lot of donated time and goods. There is also a possibility of involving McDonnell Douglas in the effort, that is if we get one of their aircraft. By getting these organizations involved we get a lot of community support and acceptance of the project as well as free labor. This project has been forwarded to the City as a capital improvement request. The cost was estimated at $25,000, and with full participation we should be able to get it done for that or hopefully less. `.
