CAPE GIRARDEAU AIRPORT ADVISORY BOARD
Jerry W. McClanahan, Chairman

Mr. J. Ronald Fischer
City Manager
P. O. Box 617
Cape Girardeau, MO 63702-0517
Re: Proposal for Convention and Tourism Funds
Dear Mr. Fischer:
On behalf of the Cape Girardeau Airport Board, we are pleased to
submit the following proposal for financial assistance under the convention
and tourism fund. As you are aware, the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport
is a key component in the City's effort to attract economic development for
the community. One of the major responsibilities of the Airport Board is
to promote the awareness and use of the airport facility and the importance
of aviation for the entire area. With this in mind, the community has been
given the unique opportunity to host the United States Navy Blue Angels air
show May 9 and 10, 1992.
The last performance of the Blue Angels in Cape Girardeau was in 1983
and resulted in over 20,000 people attending this unique event. The two
day program grossed $50,000 in receipts from concession sales, parking, and
gate fees. We would anticipate a budget of approximately $50,000 for this
year's program and would be prepared to repay the fund from any net
proceeds from the event.
We have enclosed a preliminary budget outlining the anticipated
expenditures for hosting a program of this magnitude. We fully anticipate
that this event will draw people from a wide region because of the
popularity of the Blue Angels and the recent Desert Storm war. This influx
of people attending the show will have a definite positive economic impact
on the community.
We appreciate the opportunity to submit this proposal for what we feel
will be a very beneficial activity for the community. I will be in
attendance at your December 2 Council meeting to respond to any questions
you might have concerning the Blue Angels visit.
Very truly yours, _
Jerry W. McClanahan, Chairman

MEMORANDUM
TO: Douglas K. Leslie, Public Works Director
7
FROM: Mark J. Seesing, Airport Manager
DATE: November 18, 1991
SUBJECT: Military Aircraft Display
I have contacted Congressman Emerson to act on the City's
behalf to secure information on steps to be initiated to obtain a
military aircraft for display at the airport. Attached is a copy
of the information he received from the Department of the Air Force
and the Department of the Army.
If you feel this is an acceptable project to pursue, I will
prepare letters to be signed by the Mayor requesting we be
considered for a donated aircraft. This letter is the first step
in procuring a display aircraft. After the military has approved
the request, we will need to figure out how to get it, transfer it
to Cape, and then erect it.
Please advise me on your decision on this issue.
