A RESOLUTION EXTENDING CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL
TIGERS OF CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI ON WINNING THE STATE 4A BASKETBALL
CHAMPIONSHIP
WHEREAS, on March 15, 1980, the Central High School Tigers
of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, won the Class 4A State High School
Basketball Championship; and
WHEREAS, this victory was won by a team that remarkably
recovered from a nine-point deficit in the final 5: 34 minutes of
play to defeat an outstanding opponent, Hickman Mills of Kansas
City, Missouri; and
WHEREAS, the winning of this 4A crown brought to the City of
Cape Girardeau its first State Basketball Championship since 1954
and second State Championship since the State Tournaments were
instituted in 1927; and
WHEREAS, the Class 4A State Championship Title not only has
brought great honor to our own Central Tigers Basketball Team,
but also brought great prestige, State and National recognition
to our City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
That the City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, extends to the
Central High School Tigers its sincere congratulations on winning
the State Class 4A Basketball Championship; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THIS RESOLUTION be spread upon
the records of the City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and a copy
be sent to Dr. Arthur H. Turner, Superintendent of Schools of the
City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to Mr. Dan Milligan, the Coach,
and each member of the team.
