A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE SOUTHEAST
MISSOURI REGIONAL PORT AUTHORITY ' S
FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR A REGIONAL WASTE
DISPOSAL SYSTEM
WHEREAS, the City of Cape Girardeau recognizes that solid
waste disposal is of major importance to all persons; and
WHEREAS, in order to properly address this problem and
develop a comprehensive solution, it is essential that
responsible governmental units and corporations join together
to develop a region wide waste disposal system; and
WHEREAS, it appears that one of the methods to address this
problem is through support of the Southeast Missouri Regional
Port Authority' s feasibility study on a regional concept now
proposed through the State of Missouri ' s Environmental
Improvement and Energy Resources Authority; and
�,,, WHEREAS , the Port Authority and individual private
corporations can pursue the studying, planning, design,
construction and operation of this system on behalf of the
participating governmental units; and
WHEREAS, in order to have such a system in operation by the
time existing landfills are completely filled, it is essential
that planning activity begin immediately;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI , AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1 . The City of Cape Girardeau hereby declares its
support of the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority' s
feasibility study proposed through the State of Missouri ' s
Environmental Improvement and Energy Resources Authority.
SECTION 2 . The City Manager is hereby designated as the
official representative of the City of Cape Girardeau in
providing assistance in the development of the regional plan.

SECTION 3 . This Resolution shall be in full force and
