A RESOLUTION ADOPTING A POLICY ON PURCHASE
OF AMERICAN PRODUCTS
4�HEREAS, the Missouri General Assembly has adopted Senate Bill
74 that requires municipalities to purchase goods manufactured,
assembled or produced in the United States unless the purchase of
American qoods would increase the cost by more than 10�; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 74 provides an exemption for any
municipality in which the chief executive certifies in writing
that the municipality has adopted a formal written policy to
encourage the purchase of products manufactured, assembled or
produced in the United States:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Cape
Girardeau , Missouri , wishes to be exempt from the provisions of
Senate Bill 74 by adopting the following policy on the purchase of
American goods:
1 . The municipal purchasing officers are encouraged to
select products manufactured, assembled or produced in ttie United
States if the quality and price are comparable with other goods .
2. Every contract for public works construction or
maintenance shall contain a provision requesting the contractor to
use American products in the performance of the contract whenever
the quality and price are comparable with other goods .
3 . The City Council of the City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri ,
encourages the people of the community to purchase products
manufactured, assembled or produced in the United States whenever
the quality and price are comparable with other goods .
