A RESOLUTION ENDORSING PROPOSED HIGHWAY
PRIORITIES FOR THE CAPE GIRARDEAU AREA
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAPE GIRARDEAU,
MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
That the Cape Girardeau City Council endorse� a plan for a
proposed east and west highway serving the new Cape Girardeau
four-lane bridge . This highway to proceed west by the extension
of Route K, or approximately thereto, through the community of
Marble Hill , traversing the existing right-of-way of Highway 34 ,
where possible, to connect with U. S. Highway 60 near Van Buren ,
M0. Then from the bridge an easterly extension of Highway 146
using existing right-of-way, where possible to connect with
Interstate 57 and Interstate 24. Said purpose of highway--to
allow Cape Girardeau east and west access not presently available .
We further endorse the plan for a highway extension to connect
Route A near Festus , MO to Interstate 44 and Interstate 70 between
Warrenton and Wentzville , M0. The purpose of this highway is to
allow convenient and economical access to Jefferson City (the
State Capitol ) and Columbia/Kansas City, which is not currently
available .
We further request that the Missouri State Highway Commission
add by amendment, the two proposed highway projects to their
15-year Missouri State Highway Program. Said resolution is
proposed for the purpose of economic development and for
convenience of the traveling public.
