A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE ADOPTION OF A
CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO PROTECT THE UNITED
STATES FLAG
WHEREAS, the United States Flag is our National symbol of
patriotism and loyalty to the United States of America, and
WHEREAS, the United States Flag is a unifying symbol
representing the diversity of our nation, and
WHEREAS, the United States Flag has been a rallying symbol for
citizens of the United States in times of war and other national
crises, and
WHEREAS, many United States citizens have given their lives on
the battle fiel�s of the worlc in order to preserve our freedom
and way of life which is symbolized by the United States Flag, and
WHEREAS, honor and respect for the United States Flag is of
vital importance to our society, and
WHEREAS , the United States Supreme Court has ruled that
desecration of the flag is permitted by the United States
Consitution, and
WHEREAS, the ruling is unacceptable to the citizens of the
United States who place great value on the United States Flag as a
national symbol of honor .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION l . The City Council of Cape Girardeau, Missouri ,
does hereby urge that the Congress of the United States of America
adopt a proposed Constitutional Amendment to prohibit and punish
desecration of the United States Flag and the City Council further
urges all citizens to prevail upon their congressional
representatives to support and endorse such an Amendment .
