A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF APRIL,
1990 AS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
WHEREAS , over two million children nationwide are abused .
WHEREAS , last vear in Cape Girardeau County there were six
hundred thirty reports of child abuse .
WHEREAS, the City of Cape Girardeau has the welfare of all its
citizens , particularly the children, as an immediate concern.
WHEREAS, the Cape Girardeau County Council on Child Abuse and
Neqlect , Division of Family Services , Division of Youth Services ,
Family Learning Center , Community Counselinq, McGruff Proqrams and
other community organizations and programs are actively trying to
prevent child abuse .
4dHEREAS , these groups provide the teaching of nonabusive
parenting skills and self-esteem for both parents and children .
WHEREAS , the State and National Governments have set qoals of
reducinq child abuse by twenty per cent this year .
WHEREAS , in 1983 and every year since , April has been
proclaimed by Presidential Proclamation as Child Abuse Prevention
Month .
N044, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS :
That the month of April is designated CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION
MONTH.
Further , the City will set as its qoal reducing child abuse by
twenty per cent in 1990 .
