Tne immediate �arameters of our economic development coordination include the Ci�y of Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau County, parts of the Northeast section of Scott Coun�y, and the Southeast Missouri Port Authority. Our project is an ongoing pr-ogram that has been in existance since 1989. Funding by the a;ea businesses is scheduled to conclude with 1991 year end. In an effort to continue the existing industry and industrial recruitment program we must secur� funds for the marketing budget. The projecr mission is to make doing business in Cape Girardeau possible, profitable, and pleasurable Lo all concerned, hence, increasing our basic employmenL, quality of life, and tax base. The time line for tne completion of this program is infirite, however, the funds requested would be expended from January l , 1992 - June 30, 1992. Page 3 2 . The county itself maintains 4�o unemployment av�rage, however, �he surrounding counties of Bollinger (12%) , Scott (8.1%) , Perry (5.9%) , and P4ississippi (9.9°0) , have a significartly higher ra�e.
