A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CAPE GIRARDEAU
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ON THEIR SEVENTY-FIFTH AIVrtIVERSARY
WHEREAS, the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary organization of
business and professional men and women who have joined together for the purpose of
promoting the civic, commercial and industrial progress of Cape Girardeau and the area; and
WHEREAS, the Chamber has had its hand in the growth and strengthening of the Cape
Girardeau area since 1917; and
WHEREAS, the Chamber was the original driving force behind the establishment of
Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority, Cape County Industrial Development Authority,
Greater Cape Girardeau Development Corporation, Riverfest, Convention & Visitors Bureau,
Charter Form of Government, and Downtown Redevelopment; and
WHEREAS, the Chamber has worked on projects like the new Mississippi River Bridge
and corridor route through Cape Girardeau, Proposition A funding for road and bridge
improvements, Flood Control, Diagnostic Veterinary Laboratory, producing industrial,
convention, and tourism recruitment video tapes for the City of Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau
Enterprise Zone, and County Sales Tax; and
WHEREAS, in the past ten years the Chamber has assisted in the recruitment of 1,500
new industrial jobs to the Cape Girardeau area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
That the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce is commended for seventy-five years
of service to the community and extended best wishes for continued success.
