RESOLUTION HONORING CITY EMPLOYEES FOR WORK IN
ADVERSE CONDITIONS
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAPE GIRARDEAU,
MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, on Sunday afternoon, January 16, 1994, sleet and
freezing rain began to fall over the Cape Girardeau area followed
by heavy snow;
WHEREAS, the snow continued to accumulate to more than seven
(7) inches in depth;
WHEREAS, temperatures fell to record below zero readings;
WHEREAS, City employees, including Street Division, Stormwater
Division, Solid Waste Division, Airport Division, Police
Department, Fire Department, and employees of the Water Division
continued working and responding to the needs of the community in
these adverse weather conditions;
WHEREAS, this work continued for four days, including around
the clock snow removal, ice control, and water line repairs;
WHEREAS, due to this dedication and relentless effort,
municipal services were maintained, businesses were allowed to run
as normally as possible, and schools reopened earlier than in any
other community in the area;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, recognizes and expresses
appreciation to these dedicated City Employees for services above
and beyond normal duties; further, that these employees be
recognized for exemplifying the spirit of community service during
difficult times.
