A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CAPE GIRARDEAU,
MISSOURI, AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR
NOMINATION AS A LOCAL HISTORIC LANDMARK FOR
THE RIVER HERITAGE MUSEUM BUILDING, A.K.A. THE
OLD CITY HALL, POLICE STATION AND FIRE STATION
AT 538 INDEPENDENCE STREET
WHEREAS, The City of Cape Girardeau adopted an Historic
Preservation Ordinance on February 20, 1990, and;
WHEREAS, The purpose of said ordinance is to promote the
protection and enhancement of buildings, structures or land
improvements of special historic, aesthetic or architectural
significance which are required in the interest of promoting the
educational, cultural, economic and general welfare of the City,
and;
WHEREAS, the River Heritage Museum building, a.k.a. the Old
City Hall, Police Station and Fire Station has important historical
significance to the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
ARTICLE 1. The City Manager of the City of Cape Girardeau,
Missouri, is hereby authorized to sign and submit, on behalf of the
City, the necessary documents required to make application to the
Historic Preservation Commission for nomination of the structure
cited above as an historic landmark of the City.
