by Ordinance P1o. 1221, duly and regularly adopted at a regular meeting of
said �ouncil duly and regularly held on the 17th day of October, 191�9, did
direct that a speci�l election be held in said City on Tuesday, the 6th da.,y
of �3ecember� �9�;9, f'or• the purpose of submitting to tt�ie qualif'ied vot�rs of
said City the followii� propositi�n, among others;

Shall the Ca�ty of �ape Girardeau, ?�issouri, incur
an indebtedriess and issue bonds of said City in
evidence thereof ir�, the amount of Qne Hunared ,Sixty-
five �i'hou�and Lollars (y�165,000) for the purpose of
�' purchasing ground for a ne� fire station, erecting -
tv��o new fire sta.ti�ns and equippir�� sw^.�e, and pur-
chasing apparatus useful in the extinguishing of
fires?
and
WH�REAS, the said orc�i_nance did direct that tt?e aforesaid election
be held in tb.e severa7_ wards of said City and at the polling places therein
set out; and
WHER�S, due and reg�ular notice of said election was �iven as di-
rected by said oi�linance a.nd as req_uired by law, by publicat,ion in The South-
east T��issourian on the 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th days of' November, 191�9; said
netivspaner being a daily newspaper published and of beneral circulation in the
City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and said news�a.per having previously been
admitted to the post of'f.ice in sai� City of Cape Girardeau as second class
matter an�l havi.n�� been published re�;ular�y and consecu.tivelti° �or a period of
more than three ,years prior to the publication of.' said n otice, and said news-
paper having a list of bona fide subscribers, voluntaril� engaged as such, who

WH�:tr:�;AS, said notice was publisnea in sa.id newspaper once a week
for at least three consecutive weeks prior to the date of said election,
the first o�' said publications havino occurred at least twenty-o..e day� be-

did make provision for the use thereat of ballots in the f'orm provided by

VdHER�S, the said ballots used at sa.id special election were in
substantially the form set f orth in the afoz•esaid Ordinance No. 1221; an�

as req�zired by the Statutes of the State of' n�issouri; and
WHEREAS, the said judges of saic election, immediatel,y upon the
closir� of' the polls on said 6th day of �ecember, 19L�9, did make out, certi-
f'y an.d transr.+it to this City �ouncil, through the City Clerk, the returns
of saici election; and

sand, seven hundred and seven (2,707) votes, of' which two thousand and eighty-
seven (2,087) votes were cast "FOk INCREASE OF' UEB`I' - YES" and six hundred
tv�entv (620) votes were cast ��FQR I1�TCkEASE OF D�B'I' - P�0"; and that said prop-
os�tion, therefore, wa.s assented to by a majority of more than two-third.s of'
the a,ualif'ied electorc of said Cit� voting thereon at said election; and
YVHEREAS, the result of the aforesaid election was dul,y and formally
declared b� Ordinance �,To. 1223 of' said Cit,y, aclopted on the 7th day of December,

until the principal of said b onds, respectively, shall have been paid. Interest

shall be collected. in the same manner and at the same ti:me as other city ta�es
ar•e extended and collected, and the rate of tax which shall be so extendad shall

after due allowance sha11 have been made for probable delinquencies in the pay-

SLCTIor1 6. 7'hat in order to make provision for the payment of' interest
which va 11 accrue on said boncis on ;September l, 195�, and prior to the time when
the first tax herein provided for can be collected and become available, there

with the provisions of' this ordinance shall be and the same are hereby repealed,
