SECTION l: That the Police Department of the City of Cape
Gir�rdeau� T�ii$s���, be organized .with the following:= = " ;

Sergeant 9
Patrolman and
Probationary Patrolman 12
Pound �fficer 1
Night Watchman 3
Special Officer 1

SECTION 2: That all patrolmen of the Police Department
shall be Probationary Patrolmen for a period of six months after
their first employment, after which the ssid Probationary Patrol-
men may be promoted to Patrolmen or a higher rank if their �h• `
service is satisfactory. For the purpose of this ordinance, any
satisfactory servic8 performed as an officer of the ;�ape Girardeau
Police Department shall be counted to make up such probationary
period' �rhether such service is continuous or nQt.
���� ' ��'ION 3: - That 'where the presently existin� ranks held
by officers of the Police Department on the effective date of this
� o�c�nanc.e exceed the number of officers of such rank permitted
� by this oxdi-�anc.e, such excess officers shall not be demoted but
no additional officers shall be appointed to such rank until the "
number of officers in such rank has been reduced to the number
permitted by this or-�-}�ance� by ��--o-f-•res�}g�ra�e�-yw�--�e�-��e�ent, ,
dismissal, or otherwise . `
SECTION 4: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in
conflict herewith are hereby repealed, effective November l, 1q55 .
SECTION 5 : That this ordinance is necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public peace, health or safety and
shall go into effect on November l, 1955 .
Passed and approved this 31st day of October, 1955 .
