AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING SMOKING IN A CARELESS,
RECKLESS OR NEGLIGENT MANNER IN HOTELS AND PUBLIC
LODGING HOUSES OR PLACES OF PUBLIC ABODE AND PRO- '
VTDING FOR THE POSTING OF NOTICE OF SAID ORDINANCE
AND PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATIOAT, AND
REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN
CONFLICT HEREWITH.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COIINCIL OF THE CITY OF CAPE
GIRARDEAU, MISSOIIRI, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. It shall be unlawful for any person to smoke„ and
attempt to light or smoke cigarettes, cigars, pipes or tobacco in a
careless, reckless or negli�ent manner in any hotel, rooming house,
lod�ing house or place of public abode, so as to endanger life or
property.
SECTION 2. That a plainly printed notice of Section 1 of
this Ordinance shall be posted in a eonspicuous place, advi�ing tenants
of any hotel, rooming house, lodgin� house or other place of public
abode of the provisions of Section 1.
SECTION 3. Any person who shall violate the provisions of
this Ordinance ahall be deemed guilt� of a misdemeanor, and upon con-
viction thereof, shall be punished bg a fine of not less than One Dollar
(�1,00) and not more than One Hundred Dollars (�100.00) , or imprisoruaent
in the Cit� �sil for not less than ten (10) days and not more than three
months, or by both such fine and imprisonment, together with thc costs
of the prosecution.
SECTION !}. All Ordinanees or parts of Ordinances that are in
conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION 5. That this Ordinance shall take effect ten (10)
days after its passage and approval.
