AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 18 OF THE CITY
CODE BY ADDING A NEW SECTION 18-137
RELATING TO APPEARANCES IN MUNICIPAL COURT
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAPE
GIRARDEAU , MISSOURI , AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION l . Section 18-137 of the Code of Ordinances of the
City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri , is hereby enacted, to read as
follows:
Sec. 18-137 . Failure to Appear in Municipal Court .
a. Any person �aho, having been issued a summons or a
h]issouri Uniform Traffic Ticket for any violation
of the laws of the City of Cape Girardeau,
Missouri , fails to appear before the judge of the
Municipal Court as required shall be guilty of an
offense .
b . In addition to the forfeiture of any security
^ which was given or pledged for his release, any
person who, having been released upon a
recognizance or bond pursuant to any other
provisions of law, fails to appear before the
judge of the Municipal Court as required shall be
guilty of an offense .
c . Nothing in this section shall prevent the
exercise of the Municipal Court of its power to
punish for contempt.
SECTION 2 . If any section , subsection, sentence, clause ,
phrase or portion of this ordinance is for any reason held
invalid or unconstitutional by any court of competent
jurisdiction, such portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct
and independent provision and such holding shall not affect the
validity of the remaining portions hereof .
SECTION 3 . It is the intention of the governing body and
it is hereby ordained that the provisions of this ordinance
shall become and be made a part of the Code of Ordinances of
ttie City of Cape Girardeau , Missouri , and the sec,tions of this
Code may be renumbered to accomplish such intention.

,� SECTION 4 . This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect ten days after its passage and approval .
