AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY CODE WITH
RESPECT TO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR CITY
EMPLOYEES
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAPE GIRARDEAU,
MISSOURI , AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1 . Section 19-14 of the Code of Ordinances of the City
of Cape Girardeau, Missouri , entitled "Residency Requirements" is
hereby repealed and a new Section 19-14 entitled "Residency
Requirements" is hereby enacted in lieu thereof in words and
figures as follows , to-wit :
Sec . 19-14. Residency Requirements .
(a ) All specialized employees as defined in Section 19-5
of the Code of Ordinances shall maintain residence
within the �city limits of Cape Girardeau .
lb) All other city employees shall maintain residence
within the State of Missouri , provided however , the
City Manager shall have the authority to establish
more restrictive requirements for emergency response
personnel .
(c ) Newly hired specialized employees will be allowed a
period of twelve ( 12 ) months from their first day of
city employment to comply with the provisions of
paragraph ( a ) of this section,
SECTION 2. If any section, subsection, sentence , clause ,
phrase or portion of this ordinance is for any reason held invalid
or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such
portion shall be deemed a separate , distinct and independent
provision and such holding shall not affect the validity of the
remaining portions hereof .
SECTION 3 . It is the intention of the governing body and it is
hereby ordained that the provisions of this ordinance shall become
and be made a part of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Cape
Girardeau, Missouri , and the sections of this Code may be
renumbered to accomplish such intention.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
ten days after its passage and approval .
