RESOLUTION NO. 1677
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING
SERGEANT BRADLEY ELLIS MOORE
AND CORPORAL KEITH ALLEN MAY
OF THE CAPE GIRARDEAU POLICE
DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, the members of the City Council of the City of Cape Girardeau,
Missouri, hold in highest esteem those dedicated individuals who have admirably
contributed to the peace and tranquility of their communities and neighborhoods through
their diligent work and self-sacrifice as Cape Girardeau City Police Officers; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Bradley Ellis Moore and Corporal Keith Allen May of the Cape
Girardeau Police Department deserve the highest accolades and tremendous respect for
their recent bravery in the performance of their duties; and
WHEREAS, on February 10, 2001, Cape Girardeau Police Sergeant Bradley Ellis
Moore and Corporal Keith Allen May were requested to investigate possible illegal activities
occurring at a local motel. Shortly after their arrival, both officers were shot and seriously
wounded by one of the suspects, and Officer May and Officer Moore returned gunfire in
self-defense at the suspect, fatally wounding him; and
WHEREAS, the Cape Girardeau City Council is deeply grateful that Corporal Keith
Allen May has sufficiently recovered to return to active duty in the Police Department.
Sergeant Bradley Ellis Moore is still recuperating; and
WHEREAS, both Sergeant Bradley Ellis Moore and Corporal Keith Allen May,
during their tenure with the Cape Girardeau Police Department, have maintained a superb
professional reputation, having received numerous letters of commendation from various
governmental entities and private citizens. Corporal Keith Allen May joined the Department
in February, 1985, was promoted to Corporal in January, 1996, and is currently assigned
to Patrol Division as second in command of D Platoon. Sergeant Bradley Ellis Moore
joined the Department in August, 1977, was promoted to Sergeant in October, 1983, and
is currently assigned to Patrol Division as Commander of D Platoon and is second in
command of the Special Response Team; and
WHEREAS, well respected by their colleagues and superior officers, Sergeant
Bradley Ellis Moore and Corporal Keith Allen May have had compassion for those who
were victims of wrongdoing and have dedicated an untold amount of time and energy to
the complex process of solving crimes and apprehending perpetrators.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. We, the members of the Cape Girardeau City Council, join
unanimously to salute the bravery and impressive careers of Sergeant Bradley Ellis Moore
and Corporal Keith Allen May and to convey to them the Council's commendation for their
self-sacrifice and the performance of their law enforcement duties.
SECTION 2. The City Council and the entire community of the City of Cape
Girardeau, Missouri, wish to express their deep gratitude to Sergeant Bradley Ellis Moore
and Corporal Keith Allen May for their fine service to the citizens of this City.
