The project area starts at Kingshighway (US 61) near its intersection with Mt. Auburn Road and extends south to Southern Expressway, a distance of approximately 4.9 creek miles. Project Description The portion of the creek between Mt. Auburn Road and Hopper Road is in a more or less natural condition with some localized improvements. The portion between Hopper and State Highway 74 has been widened, straightened and particularly on its southern end, lined with rip -rap and gabion baskets. Cape La Croix Creek resumes its natural state south of State Highway 74. A unique feature of the creek is a walking/biking trail that is constructed beside it. There are two areas along the creek where erosion is beginning to undercut the trail. In addition there are areas that are where erosion is threatening sanitary storm sewer facilities. This project will repair the damage in these areas by installing rip - rap, slope stabilization mats, or other stabilization methods. Justification This project will stabilize the creek slopes to prevent further erosion damage, thereby protecting recreation facilities, sanitary and storm sewer facilities and improving water quality. Funding The $30,000 City match will consist of $20,000 in city funds and a minimum of $10,000 in City labor. The $50,000 from the Grant/City Funds will fund material purchases and the rental of any heavy equipment needed to complete the project.
