RESOLUTION NO. SQ
A RESOLUTION OF THE CAPE GIRARDEAU CITY
COUNCIL EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR LOCATING A
JUVENILE JUSTICE CENTER IN THE CITY LIMITS OF
THE CITY OF CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI
WHEREAS, the Cape Girardeau County Juvenile Office currently
maintains its managerial office at 44 North Lorimier Street, and
its detention facility in the 300 block of Merriwether Street, both
in the City of Cape Girardeau., Missouri; and
WHEREAS, due to expanding case load, the Cape Girardeau County
Commission and the Cape Girardeau County Juvenile Office desire to
consolidate and expand these operations into a single Juvenile
Justice Center to serve the residents of Cape Girardeau County and
the City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and
WHEREAS, the location of the Cape Girardeau County Juvenile
office operations in the City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, has for
many years been mutually advantageous both to the citizens of Cape
Girardeau, Missouri, and to the Cape Girardeau County Juvenile
Office; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Cape Girardeau,
Missouri, desires for the new Juvenile Justice Center facility to
be located within the Cape Girardeau city limits and to continue
its good working relationship with the Cape Girardeau County
Juvenile Office;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
ARTICLE 1. The City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, through its
City Council, does hereby express and confirm its support for the
location, construction and operation of a Juvenile Justice Center
by the Cape Girardeau County Commission and the Cape Girardeau
County Juvenile Office within the city limits of the City of Cape
Girardeau, Missouri.
ARTICLE 2. The City Council hereby authorizes City Staff to
work with County officials in examining sites within the City of
Cape Girardeau, Missouri, that might be available for development
for this facility, and further commits to any and all joint follow-
up actions that may be necessary to secure this project in the most
timely and economical manner possible.
