Report on Radio Control Model Air Show – The Model Air Show was held May 6, 2001. The day started out very well and was well attended until the rain came. A total of 34 Young Eagle Flights were given and approximately 50 modelers were here for the event. C. Report on FAA Central Region Conference – Mr. Loy reported on his trip to Kansas City for the IAA Central Region Conference. A main issue of concern for the FAA right now is that of runway incursions. Therefore, the FAA is really making it clear to the towers that any infraction should be written up. One hotspot area at the Cape Girardeau airport is when pilots exit onto Runway 220 instead of Taxiwav D when landing on Runway 10. In an effort to help this situation, we are in the process of painting exit lines on Runway 10 and have made changes to the signs adding an arrow to Taxiway D and increased the luminance level on six signs, which will help at night. There is also an FAA sponsored brochure on the intern[ where we can add a picture of our " hotspot" and a display board will be placed in Air Evac Aviation for the pilot's review. During the conference, Mr. Loy was informed that the "Tall Structure" legislation made it through the House and is now in the Senate, but it would be tough to get it on the docket prior to the end of the session. Also, a benefit for the State and us is that the Governor's Transportation Bill does not include language for the sunset rule on the aviation jet fuel tax and does not set a cap on the amount TWA would pay. Mr. Pete McQuay made a presentation on the future of small aircraft and the aviation industry. His presentation consisted of a comparison of the future of the aviation industry similar to the development of the auto world from the Model T. When the Model T first came out, people thought they would never be able to afford one, it was only for the rich. Small aircraft are progressing in the same manner. An interesting video clip can be downloaded from www.sats.nasa.gov. Mr. Loy will contact Mr. McQuay to see if he would be available fir a presentation to our City Council showing the concept of the aviation and intermodal transportation possibilities of the future. V. NON AGENDA ITEMS Mr. Trickey mentioned that he had heard that an airport was being built across the river and hangars were going to be built there since there weren't any hangars available here. Mr. Loy informed the board that there was ample room to build hangars at this airport if anyone wished to do so and he will research the issue. Mr. Tricky also mentioned that he has had complaints about the service in the restaurant Mr. Low reported that the Convention and Visitors Bureau has asked if the airport would consider having a Friday night reception tier the Harley-Davidson Owners Group (HOG) rally which will be coming to Cape Girardeau in September. Mr. Loy reported that the entrance sign, which was placed in the budget, has been taken out due to lack of funds available. At the tenant sheeting it was discussed to erect a billboard on airport property to list the tenants. Mr. Loy will discuss the possibilities with Drury Southwest Signs who already have two billboards on airport property. Mr. Loy reported that the Master Plan Advisory Group will be meeting in the next 30 to 45 days. Crawford Murphy and Tilly have been working on preliminary information and should be ready for the next step in the near future. VII. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business for discussion, Mr. Seesing made a motion to adjourn, Mr. Trickey seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.nr.
