A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FROM THE CITY OF CAPE
GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI, FOR MISSOURI HOUSE BILL 104
IN THE 99TH MISSOURI GENERAL ASSEMBLY OR ANY OTHER
LEGISLATION TO REPEAL THE CURRENT "PREVAILING
WAGE LAWS" OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAPE
GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, being good stewards of the public treasury is
paramount to conducting responsible government; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cape Girardeau strives to make
judicious use of every tax dollar; and
WHEREAS, City sales tax revenues and other income sources
in Missouri are declining; and
WHEREAS, current prevailing wage laws in Missouri
negatively impact budgets of all public entities, including
cities; and
WHEREAS, current prevailing wage laws in Missouri create an
artificially inflated labor rate that must be applied to public
construction projects, causing the unnecessary expenditure of
untold millions of dollars annually in Missouri that could be
better utilized to improve infrastructure and serve taxpayers;
NO THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Cape Girardeau,
Missouri urges our Senators, Representatives, and all Members of
the 99th General Assembly to support and pass Missouri House Bill
104, and Senate Bill 20, or other legislation to repeal the .
Missouri Prevailing Wage Law, and sections 290.210, 290.220,
290 . 230, 290. 240, 290 .250, 290 . 260, 290. 262, 290 .263, 290.265,
290 . 270, 290. 280, 290.290, 290 . 300, 290. 305, 290. 315, 290 . 320,
290 . 325, 290. 330, 290 . 335, and 290. 340, RSMo, relating to public
contracts.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be
immediately transmitted to our local State Senators,
Representatives, and the 99th Missouri General Assembly.
