AN ORDINANCE CALLING A SPECIAL GENERAL
ELECTION IN THE CITY OF CAPE GIRARDEAU,
MISSOURI, TO ELECT A COUNCIL MEMBER IN WARD
3; DESIGNATING THE TIME OF HOLDING THE
ELECTION; AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY
CLERK TO GIVE NOTICE OF THE ELECTION
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAPE
GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
ARTICLE 1. A special general election is hereby ordered to
be held in the City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on Tuesday,
August 5, 2014, to elect a Council Member to fill a vacancy in
Ward 3 for the unexpired term of Council Member Trent Summers
which term expires on April 5, 2016.
ARTICLE 2. The form of the notice of election for the
special general election, a copy of which is hereby attached and
made a part hereof, is hereby approved.
ARTICLE 3. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and
directed to notify the County Clerk of Cape Girardeau County,
Missouri, of the passage of this ordinance no later than 5:00
o'clock P.M. on May 27, 2014, and to include in said
notification all of the terms and provisions required by the
Comprehensive Election Act, Chapter 115, Missouri Revised
Statutes, as amended.
ARTICLE 4. Pursuant to Section 3.15(d) of the Charter of
the City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, this measure is adopted as
an emergency because it calls an election and it provides for
the submission of a proposal to the people. Specifically,
immediate effectiveness of this Ordinance is required so the
City can comply with the time requirements contained in Chapter
115 of the Revised .Statutes of Missouri and Article VII of the
City Charter. Accordingly, this ordinance will take effect
immediately upon its passage and approval.

NOTICE OF SPECIAL GENERAL ELECTION
CITY OF CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI
Notice is hereby given to the qualified voters of the City
of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, that, pursuant to Article VII of
its Charter, the City of Cape Girardeau has called a Special
General Election to be held in the City on Tuesday, August 5,
2014, commencing at 6:00 A.M. and closing at 7:00 P.M. on that
day. The following is a sample of the ballot to be used at the
General Election:
